Today, I made the conscious decision to leave my old stories where they lay. Today, I will honor them differently. I choose not to pick them up and carry them without recognizing their true purpose. I will treasure what they have taught me and return home with the most beautiful gift I have received, the one they wish to always give...I l l u m i n a t i o n. My old stories are continuously encouraging me to start fresh, to start over, reminding me that I already went that way. "Try another," they whisper. My stories, like a constellation, in movement and beautifully scattered about. They hold and are keepers for the greater story that makes up all the pieces of me. The thing I often forget is that I have choice. I choose story. I believe we are story makers. It is how life unfolds, or how we unfold it. No matter how much a story is happening for me, no matter how thick or entrenching it feels...there is an alternative option: climb up on another. Adjust my focus. So, I choose creativity. I make art. I make art in my own way. And to tell you the truth, I had a hard time posting this video because of a story that replays often and one that I keep telling is: my artwork is not "pretty" by certain standards. According to my own inner-critic, I am not an artist. This is a very stale story. I am realizing that this isn't even valid. As an artist of life, my most passionate purpose is to share my experience. To go first. To stumble and still find beauty in all of it. To inspire others and to remind people like yourself that your expressions are amazing, because you were meant to do just that, you Amazing Soul. #newstory claim & tweet this! They make graceful mistakes and love the heck out of who they are. They just keep getting up. They keep pressing on to the one thing that is true: Illumination. They can stand in light, be in light, enlighten...because they can {end of story}. My wish for you and I is to create for the purpose of expressing our true light. To create without barriers...because WE CAN.
Earlier in the year I sat with a friend over candlelight, a gently used MotherPeace Tarot deck and my notebook of scribbles. Together, we calculated our tarot card for the year and although, I've been working with and exploring tarot cards for over 8+ years, I had never before done that. It was revealing and supportive, preparing the ground before me. Map-making is a beautiful creative process that offers a space for your seeds of intention. “It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey.” ―Wendell Berry ![]() I spent the first couple of months of 2014 with great energy; curiosity, excitement and an enthused eagerness to make it a grand year. What actually happened was, I found myself trying to escape and isolate. I share this with you, dear reader in naked vulnerability and in truth: I wanted to hide from the world. It seemed loud and overwhelming. I felt it in my body; a dwindling of energy in so many areas of my life. Now, don’t get me wrong- I live a very fulfilling life, but there was something that I just needed to tune out. In fact, it was a lot of things. I needed some quiet space to reflect and be within. “What was I doing? Where was I going? Who was I?” echoed down a drafty corridor in my mind towards an arched doorway that was partially opened, carving bright light just beyond. ![]() If you are a tarot goddess, you might have an inkling as to what my tarot card for the year was. After calculating my birth-date, and adding all the digits until I was left with a number between 1-22, I realized I was in my “Hermit” year. In the MotherPeace Tarot, this is the “Crone” card. For me, this serves as a guide post. I sent out a question to the soul, and an image- an energetic one at that, responded. This is the great ship of intuition. I board it, not fully understanding, but with a knowing that I am being guided by the all-knowing. Does it truly arrive symbolically? you may ask. Yes, yes...most definitely. There are trail-markers everywhere, guides waiting to be asked, signs in plain sight and tarot cards to be explored. Connecting to the unseen wise ones, teachers, guides, warrior goddesses, etc. is like sitting with your round-table team and coursing out the next steps of your journey. You allow confidence to add wind beneath your wings. You evoke an awareness that allows for adjusting and a deeper understanding. You invite possibilities and step into your creative genius. “When the soul wishes to experience something, she throws an image of the experience before her and enters into her own image.” ―Meister Eckhart Meet your guide or messenger for the New Year To find your tarot card for the year, use this simple calculation: Add the number of the day and the month you were born to the current year. Example: You were born on the 5th of June, and want to know your tarot card for the current year, i.e. 2015 05 + 06 + 2015 = 2026 Then add each digit of the sum: 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 (The Wheel of Fortune), reducing and keeping any number from 1-22. Only the Major Arcana cards are used here so check the list below for your card, then go explore and get to know it's meaning and message. To integrate and process, I usually create some art or journal about what messages comes through. I encourage you to engage in a creative process. Feel free to share your experience, I'd love to hear all about it! 0 The Fool (see #22 below) 1 The Magician 2 The High Priestess 3 The Empress 4 The Emperor 5 The Hierophant 6 The Lovers 7 The Chariot 8 Strength 9 The Hermit 10 The Wheel of Fortune 11 Justice 12 The Hanged Man 13 Death 14 Temperance 15 The Devil 16 The Tower 17 The Star 18 The Moon 19 The Sun 20 Judgment 21 The World 22 Takes the place of The Fool card #0 A Giveaway! Welcome to my Virtual Journal. Here you will find #fieldnotes of a Medial Woman. I write unabashedly imperfect, mostly short, even one-line word play. I share story. I share- first, my process. I view my life-living as a grand experiment and I am taking notes, mapping a trail by moments, stories and synchronicities.
